I feel very honoured to have had the opportunity to create the EP cover art for Synaptics twice.
Synaptics is a breakbeat/drum and bass group based in Barcelona.

For both pieces I decided to go back to a more traditional approach using acrylics and acrylic pens on canvas. My goal was to create these shapes by hand to achieve a juxtaposition of both geometry and an organic feeling.
Organic, because everything was painted by hand, so there are always tiny imperfections that appear. It is a representation of life.
Geometry, because when you step away, you can appreciate the beautiful pattern that is the structure of life. It also represents music in this case.
Reconnect was the first EP released in 2019.
I based the painting on a sacred geometry shape called Metatron's cube. It's a representation of the flow of creative energy in all directions. For me, it represented the perfect symbol of reconnecting to our creativity and therefore re-establishing harmony and balance within ourselves.
The blue nodes you can see are symbols for the synapses in our brain and how they connect by passing information and energy.

COMING AROUND
Synaptics 2nd EP titled "coming around" was released in May 2021.
My main inspiration for this cover came from the song with the same title and "wait for you". What stuck out most for me was the mention of energy in motion, which is what this piece represents.
The structure is based on the torus field, which stands for the movement of energy.
As the energy rises (bright yellow lines), it comes out from a central point, wraps around only to come back to the same point it started from again (orange) to repeat the process. It's a representation of how energy can never be lost but only transformed.
